Erie General Electric has donated a locomotive control stand to the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society for display at the Lake Shore Railway Museum. It was used in one of the test labs at Erie GE for many years. The control stand is similar to what was installed in many GE Dash 8 locomotives, but it was never installed in a locomotive.
This particular stand dates from early Dash 7 days and was technically the FIRST General Electric locomotive stand that complied with AAR (Association of American Railroads) regulations and requirements and is thus the FIRST AAR GE Stand, there’s even a “#1” serial number plate on the side!
You will be able to examine the stand up close later this year along with our many other GE artifacts at the museum when we open for the 2015 season. See you there!
